That is basically how I would describe this series. From the first moment until the last, this series takes you on a ride that you just wouldn’t expect.
It start with an interesting topic. A couple of real estate brokers, with a normal life, a beautiful daughter and living between two cops (yes, this is important). They have everything to be happy. But they seem to have gotten themselves in a sort of routine. Until weird shit start to happen. It’s gross, It’s funny. It’s colourful. There’s nothing like it out there. It’s refreshing.
Sheila, played perfectly by Drew Barrymore, turns into a zombie at the start of the series. The stary starts with her throwing up. A lot. Something green and disgusting. She throws up an organ or a tiny red ball(?) and from there on it’s from one event to the other. The couple goes through a lot of changes and Joel tries to keep up with the changes and the urges Sheila gets. It’s really fun to watch, because they are both a little bit clueless and still manage to get through crazy situations together.
Drew Barrymore is on top of her game, playing Sheila with this childlike enthusiasm and then turning seriously bad ass way when she starts eating people. Timothy Oliphant is super funny as Joel, who can’t always handle his wife changing in a corpse-eating undead. The teens are also really entertaining. The duo of Abby (Liv Helson), the daughter of the couple who starts skipping school and doing crazy shit to deal with the changes, and their neighbour Eric (Skyler Gisondo) who serves here as nerd and ‘expert’ of the paranormal. They are both really talented and actors to keep an eye on.
It’s brought in such a funny way that every episode got me laughing out loud and I feel with just 10 episodes it’s a bit short. I want more. I binge watched this series and I just couldn’t stop. I hope this gets a second series because it’s a real treat. But looking at all the rave reviews this has gotten, the renewal shouldn’t come as a surprise when it does.
warning: you have to be into a lot of blood and vomit, it isn’t for the faint of heart. Don’t watch if you don’t care for that stuff.
